Class Of The Week – Spin

Indoor cycling became an international fitness phenomenon in the 1990s [1] and has since become a statement class her at Riverside Sports! With the variations in the classes and what they can offer, spin classes are a class to make sure you have a go at. Available for anyone at any level, it’s a class that once you start coming to, you just keep coming back [2]

The are a number of benefits which can come with taking part in a spinning class which include:

  • It burns calories. Obviously I know but we just wanted to put it out there. You can burn up to 800 calories in a class! Therefore motivating you back for more[3]
  • There is a lower risk of injury compared to running. Due to the guidance in movement and therefore take the pressure of joints, allowing for exercise to be completed in a safe manner[4]
  • You can go at your own pace, the resistance can be set at your pace. Therefore it allows you to make adaptation in the class if you need to[5].
  • It releases endorphins, these chemicals interact with your brain, which then triggers positive feelings in the body [6]. This will lead you to come back for more and will help in reducing stress levels [7]
  • By taking part in a class means that you are part of a team. It’s a great way to meet people in the gym. By becoming part of a team, you are more likely to reach goals that you once didn’t think you would.
